Bythe 14th Century Pewter was making it's mark by replacing wood and pottery tableware's.This early version of pewter was not very healthy as it contained up to 30% lead. This resulted in a dull finish not good for the image of Pewter. The Worshipful Company of Pewterers of London sort to correct this view by gaining in 1473 sovereign approval to impose fines and penalties on any who downgraded the product with excess lead content. Over time guilds were formed that held the mark of all producers of pewter. Members were bound to produce the pewter to exact standards.Modern pewter has a bright finish and contains no lead.~~~7984~8005~~
